Top Tech Trends in Higher Education

Top Tech Trends

It’s no secret, everything in life, including higher education, is affected by trends.  A great way to stay ahead of the curve is to be aware of what is going on in the world. That being said, read on to learn about the current top trends in higher education.

Virtual Reality

For students that have dreamed of learning in a virtual world, this is trend is for you. Major players such as Google, Sony, and Samsung have already invested millions of dollars into this technology and are getting ready to reap what they have sown.

Virtual reality can revolutionize the modern classroom in many ways. Instead of learning from a presentation or a textbook, in theory, students would be able to tackle complex subjects with relative ease.  For the students that learn in a more hands-on approach, virtual reality technology could become the perfect platform to teach students! Can you even begin to picture how cool it would be to learn about the human body with virtual reality glasses? Or how about learning about architecture and being able to see where the connections are made in three dimensions? This would completely change the way we learn!

3D Printing

3D printing is exactly what you think it is. It’s a printer that prints objects in three dimensions; it breathes new life into ideas that were previously only found in textbooks. Although 3D technology isn’t completely new, what is new is the accessibility that higher education has to this technology.  In recent years, technology has been more affordable, so expect many universities to jump on this trend.

What’s most exciting about this technology is it allows for pure creation. Students will now have the ability to have an idea in their head and bring it to life.

Heck, and to think that I thought that simple 3D movies were cool! Keep reading how to evolve snom.

Wearable Technology

This trend has already started to peak and become mainstream. I’m talking about the Apple watches and the FitBit bands of the world. Concerning higher education, wearable technology will only progress and serve to aid educators in the field. Picture the classroom of tomorrow where professors are taking students on a field trip and can GPS track their students. This could potentially allow students to go on more field trips and professors won’t have to worry about losing their students; they’ll be tracked!

Additionally, universities can use wearable technology to put more of an emphasis on health. The more technology we have that can track and monitor our basic health, the more opportunities that universities will have to be able to study health and improve on it.

CRM

Customer relationship management (CRM) has historically been used in big businesses to help track and manage the business’s relationship with its customers.  Today, universities are realizing the value of CRM and are beginning to incorporate the technology for their benefits. Can you imagine the value of knowing exactly which professors that successful students interacted with while on campus and what alumni decided to donate to their school after graduation? With proper CRM tracking, a college would be able to identify the lifecycle of their best students, from recruitment to post-graduation. Expect colleges to adopt this technology as time goes on.
